World Heart Day

World Heart Day is celebrated on 29 September every year. Heart diseases are a serious issue, and according to a report by the World Health Organisation, over 17.9 million people around the world die from cardiovascular diseases (CVD) every year.

"World Heart Day" was founded in 2000 to inform people around the globe that heart disease and stroke are the world’s leading causes of death

The World Heart Federation created this global campaign in the hopes of uniting people all around the world to encourage heart-healthy living across the globe.

The World Heart Federation (WHF) is a nongovernmental organization based in Geneva, Switzerland in 1971

Kingdom of Saudi Arabia launched e-tourist visa

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced the opening of its doors to tourists from all over the world with the launch of the e-tourist visa.

the announcement was made during a ceremony organized by the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTH) in Riyadh.

Citizens from 49 countries will also be able to apply for an e-visa or receive a visa on arrival to Saudi Arabia.

A dedicated online portal was also launched and electronic kiosks are set to be available at airports to facilitate requests.

Visas will allow multiple entries and stays of up to 3 months for tourists.

The changes are the latest in Saudi Arabia's recent reforms in line with the Vision 2030 economic plan.

India, Japan, US Naval Exercise "Malabar"

The 23rd edition of trilateral maritime exercise “Malabar” between navies of India, Japan and the US will begin on Thursday off the coast of Japan.

  two frontline indigenously designed and built Indian naval ships -- multi-purpose guided-missile frigate Sahyadri and ASW Corvette Kiltan have arrived at Sasebo to participate in the exercise.

The US Navy is being represented by USS McCampbell, a Los Angeles-Class Attack Submarine, and a ''P8A'' Long Range Maritime Patrol Aircraft.

The JMSDF (Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force) would be participating with its Izumo class helicopter destroyer JS Kaga, guided-missile destroyers JS Samidare and Choukai and a "P1" Long Range Maritime Patrol Aircraft.

Malabar 2019 would endeavour to further strengthen India-Japan-US naval cooperation and enhance interoperability, based on shared values and principles.

Bulgaria's Kristalina Georgieva has been selected as the new head of the International Monetary Fund(IMF).

 She is the first person from an emerging market economy to lead the IMF.

The economist succeeds Christine Lagarde for a five-year term from October.

Kristalina Ivanova Georgieva-Kinova is a Bulgarian economist

She has also been Chief Executive of the World Bank since 2017.

She served as Acting President of the World Bank Group from 1 February 2019 to 8 April 2019.

The International Monetary Fund, also known as the Fund, is an international organization headquartered in Washington, D.C., consisting of 189 countries working to foster global monetary cooperation

British  PM's decision to suspend Parliament is unlawful

The British Supreme Court has ruled that Prime Minister, Boris Johnson's decision to suspend Parliament was unlawful.

He suspended Parliament for five weeks earlier this month, saying it was to allow a Queen's Speech to outline his new policies.

But the apex court today said it was wrong to stop Parliament carrying out its duties in the run-up to the Brexit deadline on 31 October.


Delivering its conclusions, the Supreme Court's President, Lady Hale, said, the effect on the fundamentals in British democracy was extreme.

Lady Hale said the unanimous decision of the 11 Justices was that the decision of suspension of  Parliament was unlawful and it was for the Speakers of the Commons and Lords to decide what to do next.

The day is marked each year on the third Saturday of September as an initiative of the Washington-based Ocean Conservancy, a volunteer effort for ocean health.

september 22 marks World Rhino Day, a global event established to celebrate the world’s five rhinoceros species, as well as to reflect on the challenges facing them.

Of the five rhino species living in Africa and Asia, three are listed by the IUCN as Critically Endangered: Javan Rhinos (Rhinoceros sondaicus), Sumatran rhinos (Dicerorhinus sumatrensis) and black rhinos (Diceros bicornis). Meanwhile, White rhinos (Ceratotherium simum) are considered near threatened, and greater one-horned rhinos (Rhinoceros unicornis) vulnerable to extinction.

It was first observed in 2010 by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) South Africa.

55th ITEC Day celebrated in Dhaka

The 55th Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Day was celebrated at the High Commission of India in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Around 300 ITEC alumni from all walks of life, attended the programme.

Over 4,000 young Bangladeshi professionals have undergone specialized short and medium term courses in India under the ITEC programme since 2007.

ITEC offers opportunities to participants to avail of short and medium term courses in premier institutions like IITs and IISCs in India.

It was instituted in 1964 as part of India’s Development Assistance offering for developing countries.

Every year more than 10,000 training slots are offered to 161 partner countries for training courses in various areas like Accounts, Audit, Management, SME, Rural Development and Parliamentary Affairs.
