World Day for Safety and Health

The World Day for Safety and Health at Work is celebrated annually on 28 April and led by the International Labour Organisation (ILO).

It is held on 28 April and has been observed by the International Labour Organization (ILO) since 2003.

 It raises public awareness of the importance of health and safety at work, as well as the prevention of occupational accidents.

In 2019, the World Day for Safety and Health at Work is linked to the ILO’s centenary and the discussions about the future of work.

The US has imposed sanctions on Pakistan after Islamabad refused to take back its citizen deportees and visa over-stayers from America.

It warned that it may withhold visas of Pakistanis beginning from its senior officials.

Sanctions have been imposed under a US law according to which countries refusing to take back deportees and visa over-stayers will be denied American visas.

all-rounder Shane Watson has announced his retirement from Australia's Big Bash League (BBL).

Watson, was the captain of the Sydney Thunder,

he played for the club for four years, captaining the side for the past three seasons.

Watson finished his career as Sydney Thunder's all-time leading run-scorer with 1,014 runs from 42 games

Watson will be available for select overseas tournaments, including the Indian Premier League (IPL).

World Intellectual Property Day is observed annually on 26 April

The event was established by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 2000 to "raise awareness of how patents, copyright, trademarks and designs impact on daily life" and "to celebrate creativity, and the contribution made by creators and innovators to the development of societies across the globe".

 26 April was chosen as the date for World Intellectual Property Day because it coincides with the date on which the Convention Establishing the World Intellectual Property Organization entered into force in 1970.

The theme of World Intellectual Property Day 2019 is Reach for Gold: IP and Sports.

 24 April of every year is designated as the day for the international observance.

Preserving the values of multilateralism and international cooperation, which underpin the UN Charter and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, is fundamental to promote and support the three pillars of the UN - peace and security, development and human rights.

US not to extend exemptions to any country buying Iranian oil beyond May 2

The US has decided to end exemptions from sanctions for countries still buying oil from Iran.

In a statement, White House said that five countries - India, China, Japan, South Korea and Turkey will no longer be exempt from US sanctions if they continue to import oil from Iran after their waivers end on May 2.

 there are no oil waivers that extend beyond that period,

there will be no grace period for those economies to comply.

 Iran has denounced US sanctions on its oil sector as illegal.

Malaysia has resumed a China-backed rail link project after the Chinese contractor agreed to cut the construction cost by one third to 10.6 billion US dollars.

The Malaysian government said it will also take up a multibillion-dollar property and transportation project in Kuala Lumpur involving a Chinese state company, calling it a contribution to China's global "Belt and Road" infrastructure initiative.

Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, who is travelling to China next week to attend the second Belt and Road forum, said that both projects will boost ties with China and add economic value.

Notre-Dame de Paris

Notre-Dame de Paris  meaning "Our Lady of Paris"), often simply referred to as Notre-Dame, is a medieval Catholic cathedral on the ÃŽle de la Cité in the 4th arrondissement of Paris, France.

 The cathedral is considered to be one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture.

The cathedral was begun in 1160 under Bishop Maurice de Sully and largely completed by 1260, though it was modified frequently in the following centuries.

In 1804, the cathedral was the site of the Coronation of Napoleon I as Emperor of France.

India’s population grew at an average annual rate of 1.2 per cent between 2010 and 2019 to 1.36 billion, more than double the annual growth rate of China, according to a report by the United Nations Population Fund.

India’s population in 2019 stood at 1.36 billion, growing from 942.2 million in 1994 and 541.5 million in 1969

China’s population stood at 1.42 billion in 2019, growing from 1.23 billion in 1994 and 803.6 million in 1969.

China’s population grew at an average annual rate of 0.5 per cent between 2010 and 2019


India also recorded an improvement in life expectancy at birth. The life expectancy at birth in 1969 was 47 years and in 2019, it is 69 years.

SpaceX said the rocket exerts 5.1 million pounds of thrust - that of more than a dozen jetliners.

The rocket is to carry a Saudi Arabian satellite operated by Arabsat, a year after sending founder Elon Musk's red Tesla roadster into orbit as a test.

The Falcon Heavy had been scheduled to lift off from the Kennedy Space Center on Wednesday but was delayed because of fierce winds in the upper atmosphere.

In New Zealand, Parliament has voted to ban all types of semi-automatic weapons and assault rifles

The bill was approved by 119 members

It is expected to become law within the next few days after receiving royal assent from the Governor General.

An amnesty has been imposed so the owners of the weapons can hand them back, followed by a buy-back scheme which could cost up to 200 million New Zealandean dollar.

In Slovakia, the government critic and anti-corruption activist Zuzana Caputova is set to become the first female President.

environmental lawyer Caputova got over 58 percent of the ballot after results from 91 percent of polling stations were counted, while EU energy commissioner Maros Sefcovic garnered nearly 42 percent.

Zuzana caputova is a Slovak politician, lawyer and activist who is the president-elect of Slovakia, due to take office on 15 June 2019.

caputova will be the first woman to hold the presidency, as well as the youngest president in the history of Slovakia, at age 45
